My Education and Work Experience
After I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from the University of Michigan, I pursued a career in animation and video production working primarily on television commercials as a production assistant, but soon found my passion as a self-taught makeup artist. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years in Chicago and Los Angeles as a Makeup Department Head for television series and feature films and became members of IATSE Studio Mechanics Local 476 and Makeup and Hair Local 706. I worked with a multitude of actors, celebrities, and politicians through my years-long career. My makeup portfolio and production resume is available to view at www.jamieweissmakeuparts.com.
It was during these years that I honed my professional makeup artistry, developed hair styling skills, and a knack for clothes styling, by working along some of the best makeup artists, hairstylists, and costume designers in the entertainment industry. I bring this expertise to my work as an image consultant for transgender woman at Trans-Image Consulting Group, LLC. Although I enjoyed working for many years with a myriad of famous and creative individuals, I wanted to challenge myself more and work in a field where I could help people help themselves. I went back to school to earn a degree in clinical psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology in California with a focus on marriage and family therapy. After relocating to south Florida, and completing my internship as an outpatient therapist, I became a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and opened my private practice, Weiss Psychotherapy Group, LLC.
I have been interested in sex therapy since my Human Sexuality course in my graduate program. Desirous of expanding my practice to include sex therapy for individuals and couples, I earned a Sex Therapist certification from the Sex Therapy Training Institute in Florida. During that training program, I was introduced to the transgender community and their unique challenges with gender dysphoria—an issue with one’s gender identification that is at odds with their sex assigned at birth. I am an advocate for the transgender community and will continue to support individuals on their journeys into understanding, loving, and accepting their authentic selves. Additionally, I am a Certified Transgender Care Specialist and have a PhD. in Clinical Sexology with a focus on transgender care.
Additionally, I discovered that so many of my clients have experienced childhood trauma, were struggling to cultivate and maintain healthy relationships, had frequent disturbing memories causing distress, and felt stagnant in their adult lives. I was introduced to EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)—a clinically proven and effective therapy technique that helps people uncover, reprocess and resolve childhood traumatic memories. I decided to become trained in EMDR and use this intervention frequently in my private practice.
My Work as an Image Consultant for Transgender Women and Crossdressers
I provide makeup/hair consultations, personal shopping for mtfs and crossdressers, and an ever-growing resource guide geared toward the needs and wants of the transgender and crossdresser communities. I offer my life long experience as a cisgender woman, years-long proficiency as a professional makeup artist for television and film production, and additional hair styling and clothes styling skills that I acquired along the way. I’m also a champion shopper! I work with mtfs and crossdressers to improve their female presentation, how to look and act more feminine and help them reach their goals as they emerge into their authentic selves or explore their feminine persona.
